Terminal Servers
SysTrack = End User Metrics

Lakeside Software's SysTrack technology was originally designed specifically for thin-client systems. SysTrack manages Terminal Servers (with or without Citrix), Servers, and Desktops and is massively scalable. SysTrack provides tremendous amounts of user level statistics that are crucial to managing thin-client systems. Lakeside Software licensed its original SysTrack 1 technology (written in 1997) to Citrix Systems in 1999 and became the core of the product known as Citrix RMS (Resource Management Service).

Management tools that only provide system level metrics are inadequate for managing Terminal Servers. In any thin-client environment it is imperative for administrators to have end user metrics. With out end user metrics educated cost effective decisions are not possible.

Some SysTrack features that are specifically engineered for thin-client systems are:
  • Concurrent license reporting
  • Capacity planning metrics/Server sizing
  • User Auditing
  • "Per process" Blackbox Data Recorder
  • Graphing/Tracking active sessions
  • View session information (process id, command line, etc.)
  • Measure end user latency
  • Tracking URLs from a Terminal Server (with or without Citrix)
Proactive Performance Management

SysTrack® monitors your Terminal Server systems (with or without Citrix) along with the systems users and applications that use it. Use SysTrack's per-process Blackbox Data Recorder to troubleshoot historical system issues. Determine application memory leaks. Send alerts as a drive failure is occurring. Analyze your systems historical data to determining the root cause of an issue.
End User Metrics
  • Who is using what application?
  • How many instances of Groupwise.exe does Jill have on Terminal Server #12 in the past 90 day?
  • When Gary runs word.exe, how does it impact the systems resources?
  • How many times has Sally used Internet Explorer this week?
  • When Sally runs Internet Explorer, what percentage of the time is the application actually active vs. just loaded?
  • When the Terminal Server crashed yesterday at 10:22:03, who was running what application? And which user/application was consuming the most CPU?
  • Who are my power users?
  • Can I see all of Bill's logons and logoffs?
  • Who accesses inappropriate websites from our Terminal Server?
  • Can I see John's favorite applications ranked by execution count?
In a Terminal Server (thin-client) environment, it is possible to have 40 or more concurrent users using different applications on a given system. Without end user metrics you can only guess. With SysTrack you will know.
Application Management

Application management can be complex without proper application metrics and knowledge of application use within your specific environment. Every environment is different. There is no single "Rule of Thumb" that applies across the board. Every organization has different applications, systems, users, infrastructure, etc.

Use SysTrack to make correct application management decisions based on environment specific usage metrics.

SysTrack provides application/service specific management. Based upon resource state and watermarks, proactive actions can be taken to control application behavior.
Security

SysTrack provides security functionality including:
  • Restrict application use
  • Detect and alert for system changes
  • User Auditing
  • Track Internet use (even from thin-client systems)
  • Event logging
  • Application use time stamping

Reports

SysTrack provides 800 web-enabled, batch printable html reports. All reports are customizable and new reports can be easily created with the Report Builder.
Event Management

Use SysTrack to monitor and report on your systems event log entries and store the event log information for as long as you deem necessary. Use the built-in notification to send alerts to you on certain events then take that one step further by having SysTrack perform an action based on the event.
Asset Management

Do you need to monitor your hardware and software inventory for Change Management control? Are you monitoring changes for SOX, HIPAA or ITIL compliance? SysTrack's inventory change reporting will detect changes in your software or hardware configuration. Detect changes in software versions, missing memory, a switched NIC setting, or a change in video resolution.
